OBJECTIVESThe main theme of the Conference is "CAN ASSURING PROTECTION FOR INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE LEAD TO QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN GLOBAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM?" The first sub-theme is "Educating Indigenous Healers in ways to develop and protect the intellectual property rights of their medicinal products, processes and procedures for the benefit of themselves and their communities". The second sub-theme is "Educating Conventional medical practitioners and corporate institutions to the benefits of co-developing and sharing the intellectual property rights of medicinal products, processes and procedures gained from working with Indigenous Healers for the benefit of the global village". OBJECTIVES (1) To review current international, regional, state and local laws as they affect indigenous knowledge and practices, and to recommend changes and amendments to such laws wherever necessary, so as to give adequate protection to indigenous knowledge and the rights of traditional healers to medicinal knowledge and products against bio-piracy; (2) To educate indigenous healers on how to develop and protect their medical products, process and procedures; and (3) To promote collaboration between indigenous healers, conventional medical practitioners and corporate institutions for joint-development and sharing of intellectual property rights of medicinal products, processes and procedures for the advancement of the global village.
