SANDTON - This is known as a former rich residential area that has now been made a business centre.   It has as well been made a commercial attraction by the hotels, restaurants and various businesses found in it. Sandton is also known to have its own local government.  It is also known to be in control of Africa's 60% wealth.  Maud Street in Sandton is known as the richest street in Africa, along it are buildings of very high value like the Sandton Convention Centre, JSE, the Nedcor Head Office, Balalaika Hotel and also Village Walk. We then proceed to the Market en route to Alexandra.

ALEXANDRA - This is known as the former Black residential area established under the apartheid government. This reflects the oppression done to Blacks by Whites. The type of houses found in this residential area close to Sandton, are totally contrasting the houses found in its neighbouring Sandton area. This was build outside Johannesburg as a labour camp. It was meant for Blacks to stay and come in large numbers when going to Johannesburg to work. It is said that there would be no Johannesburg if Alexandra and Soweto were not there. We then go to the Market.

THE MEDICINE MARKET - This is the Bantu Spot known to have lots of African Chemists. So much is seen here regarding African medicine. It is believed that medicine for every disease can be found at this market. We then get into Johannesburg 'The City of Gold'.

JOHANNESBURG - This was a gold mining area discovered in 1886. Lots of people came from neighbouring Southern African countries to work here. Mining of gold was finally stopped because it  was expensive to mine it. In other words, Johannesburg is a city sitting on gold. It is known as the commercial bread basket of South Africa. Later, Black people moved in and the value dropped. There are, however, plans underway to refurbish Johannesburg . We proceed to Soweto en route to Fordsburg.

FORDSBURG - This is where the first pit of a gold mine was sunk in 1886. This is between Fordsburg and Langlaagte. This is now known as an Indian settlement, entertainment area and a shopping center. This is where the shopping of oriental goods is done. We finally get into Soweto.

SOWETO - This is where 3 Noble Prize winners originated from. These are the former President Nelson Mandela, Desmont Tutu and Felicia Mabuza. There is a lot to be expected from Soweto. Hector Pieterson Museum, Nelson Mandela house, Winnie Mandela house, Desmont Tutu's house. Regina Mundi Church, Diepkloof, Baragwanath Hospital opened on the 23 September 1942 and known as the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere with babies born every 18 minutes and hence +/-30 000 babies are born per year.

The lunch for the day will be at Wandies Restaurant.  Wandies has limited space and may not accommodate a very large number of people at the same time for their lunches. Therefore it is suggested that people get to Wandies at different times for lunch.

The day is finalised by the visit to Gold Reef City - APARTHEID MUSEUM. This is worth visiting.
